Comparative gender stereotypes of Colombia and Norway

GENDER BEHAVIOR

There are many differences between Colombian culture and Norwegian culture, some of them stand out above others. Here we going to focus on the differences on women trait because of commons stereotypes. First of all, Norwegian women are very independent and It makes that what we consider politeness they find it weird or even like insulting. If we try to open the door for a woman or we pour her wine first, she’ll think that she could open the door by herself and you are trying to get her drunk.  It means that gender-based politeness norms are mostly absent in Norway. Instead, here in Colombia women feels specials and well attended, that they are receiving what they deserve for being beautiful women. That happens because in our culture men and women have a well defined roles, mostly in the Caribbean Coast part. We fit the general gender stereotypes better, but that is not good or bad, some people can think «it is just different», but in terms of gender equality, they have been going forward than us.
